1. Powers and duties of the Board

The Institute’s apex governing body is the IIMT Society. The general superintendence, direction and control of the affairs of the Society and its income and property are vested with the Board of Governors.

2. Powers and duties of the Director

(a) Mission

The duties and responsibilities of the Director of Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli are prescribed by the Government from time to time with reference to the provisions contained in the Memorandum of Association and Rules of the Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli Society. The duties of the Director of the Institute are administrative, executive, statutory and developmental. The Director is the Principal Academic and Executive Officer of the Institute. He shall be responsible for the proper administration of the Institute and for imparting of instructions and maintenance of discipline therein. He is vested with academic, financial and general powers under the ‘Delegation of Powers’ approved by the Board of Governors from time to time. The powers of the Director have been sub-delegated to the faculty and officers under him.

3. Powers and duties of Deans

(a) Dean (Academics):

A senior faculty member is designated as Dean (Academics). He is responsible for the effective and efficient operations of all the academic activities of the Institute within the policies, directions and plans of the Institute. He leads the Institute’s faculty and other academic staff members in planning, implementing and evaluating activities related to academic, research, consultancy and management development programs of the Institute under the overall guidance of the Director.The duties and responsibilities of the Dean (Academics) include the following:

  • To ensure adherence to the decisions and guidelines issued by the Board of Governors with respect to the academic programs
  • To prepare the Institute’s academic calendar
  • To plan and execute expansion of academic programs
  • To supervise the admission process, registration
  • To ensure smooth conducting of classes and examinations as per schedule
  • To declare results, award of medals and diplomas to the students
  • To maintain academic records as per the requirements of the Institute.
  • Other academic-related matters as may be referred by the Board of Governors / Director

(b) Dean (Administration):

A senior faculty member is designated as Dean (Administration). He is responsible for effective functioning of the finance & accounting system and overall administration of the Institute within its policies, directions and plans. He leads the Institute’s administrative staff members in various accounting and administrative activities of the Institute under the overall guidance of the Director. The duties and responsibilities of the Dean (Administration) include the following:

  • To serve as the incharge of the Institute for financial matters, policy development and program evaluation.
  • To work in establishing and monitoring budget which enhances and supports the mission of the Institute
  • To monitor allocation of funds to various academic and administrative activities of the Institute and transmission of recommended budgetary transfers
  • Overseeing all personnel matters involving academic and non-academic employees including recruiting,

  • All the human resource related functions of the Institute including human resource planning, recruitment, deployment, training & development, performance evaluation, promotions, counseling & discipline of employees, retirement/resignation etc Faculty and staff welfare activities
  • To assist the CAO in all the administrative activities including estate maintenance & development, housekeeping, security, contract services etc at the Institute.
  • All grievances related matters for administrative staff
  • Public Information Officer under the RTI Act, 2005
5 Officer – Admissions & Administration
  • Extending administrative support to the Chair of Admissions in framing admission policy and smooth conducting of Common Admission Test (CAT)
  • Processing applications for PGP and FPM

     

  • Conducting Common Admission Test (CAT) in coordination with other IIMs
  • Processing test results, preparing short list for GD and interviews, interview scores, final list of selected candidates
  • Correspondence with selected candidates in the form of offer of admission letters.
  • Any other function functions related to admissions to the Institute
  • Students related administrative matters like hostel management, fees fixation and collection
  • In addition, to take care of stores & purchases of the Institute
6 Manager (Academics)

Post-Graduate Programme (PGP):

  • Overall supervision of the PGP Office
  • Preparation of Academic Calendar
  • Arrangements for the Preparatory Programme and Orientation Programme
  • Communication with Area Chair and obtaining Area Teaching Plans, Course announcements to students
  • Preparation of classroom schedule, arranging for smooth conducting of classes and examinations
  • Monitoring attendance and leave of absence of students
  • Issue of grade sheets to the students, prepare grades
  • Students Exchange Programme related matters.
  • Administrative support for award of certificates, medals etc
  • Managing and maintaining facilities like classrooms, audio-visual equipment etc.

  • Overall administration of the FPM Office.
  • Coordination with Chair, FPM.
  • Arranging for preparatory programmes
  • Arranging class-scheduling etc
7 Senior Systems Officer
  • Maintaining and updating Institute website and portals
  • Managing and troubleshooting the Network infrastructure of the Institute
  • Maintaining the backbone connectivity established between hostels, guest house and staff quarters
  • Maintaining the Wi-Fi network installed at the Institute
  • Providing round the clock internet access to the faculty, staff and students and monitoring the internet connectivity availed through the Internet Service Providers
  • Providing trouble free service for the applications like Video Conferencing and Classroom audio visual solutions
  • Design, develop and monitor the network architecture for the proposed campus
  • Support publishing of online result for the admissions department
  • Creating and maintaining Wi-Fi login accounts, email accounts for faculty, staff and students
  • Configuring and maintaining all IT related equipment like desktops, servers, routers, switches, firewall, access-points, projectors etc
