IIM is a name that has steadily become synonymous with excellence and has established a benchmark for unwavering quality. IIMT, while recognizing the mentorship of IIMB aims to find its own footing in developing competent professionals for the industry. The flagship programme, Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM), has been instrumental in the achievement of this goal.

- To provide facilities for acquisition of knowledge, information and advancement of culture and Indian values
- To undertake and make available facilities for research in all branches of knowledge, and to establish institutions / centres for this purpose

3. Brief History of the Institute
In order to provide quality Management Education in the country and to cater to the needs of corporate and non- corporate sectors and public systems, the Government of India had established seven Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) – Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Indore, Kozhikode and Shillong. Considering the increasing demand for managerial manpower, the Government of India later decided to set up six new IIMs at Rohtak (Haryana), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Kashipur (Uttarakhand), Udaipur (Rajasthan) and Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu) which would help to generate globally benchmarked process of education and training in management education with the state of the art management knowledge.
Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirapalli (IIMT) is the eleventh IIM and was instituted on January 4, 2011 by the Hon’ble Minister for HRD and Telecommunication, Shri Kapil Sibal, under the patronage of the Government of India and the stewardship of IIM-B. Tiruchirapalli is a prominent city for art and culture. Initially the institute was functioning from NIT Tiruchirappalli and moved to sprawling permanent campus spread over 172 acres of land on Trichy-Pudukottai highway, 12 km from Tiruchirappalli International Airport in the year 2017.
4. Duties being performed to achieve the Objectives
In order to achieve the objectives of the Institute, it has involved in the activities of Teaching, Research, Management Development, and Consulting. The following are the major educational programmes, the Institute is conducting:
(a) Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM):
This two-year full time PGPM is the flagship programme of the institute. Its main objective is to develop young men and women into competent professional managers, capable of working in any sector of organized activity, providing leadership and achieving excellence in performance while contributing to the welfare of the larger society. The programme specifically attempts:
to equip students with the required conceptual and interpersonal skills and sense of social purpose for managerial decision-making;
to develop leadership capabilities to act as change agents and be a source of motivation in the organizations they work in;
to nurture the desire to excel in performance without compromising with the integrity, honesty and fairness; and
to provide value education which consists of:
- Human Values
- Indian ethics
- Personality development
- Western management mantras
- Practical application and not just theoretical knowledge
(b) Fellow Programme in Management (FPM):
The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is a full time, residential doctoral programme of Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (IIMT).The FPM at IIMT is globally recognized, and is a premier source of rigorous, and inter-disciplinary research in all areas of business management and public policy. The programme is committed to training individuals who will excel in their areas of research through creation of quality knowledge of international standard. FPM students will specialize in the following disciplines:

- Economics
- OB & HR
- MIS / IT
- Corporate Strategy
- Quantitative Techniques and Operations Management
(c) PGPBM (Chennai) – Post Graduate Programme in Business Management:
The Post Graduate Programme in Business Management (PGPBM) at the Chennai Centre is another flagship programme of the IIM Tiruchirappalli (IIMT). PGPBM aims at grooming working executives who aspire to move into senior leadership roles. The programme s designed to develop competent professional managers, capable of working in any sector of organized activity, provide leadership and achieve excellence while contributing to the welfare of society at large.
