Q1. What is Doctoral Program in Management (DPM)?

Doctoral Program is a full-time PhD Program at IIMT. The Program is committed to train individuals who will excel in their area of research through high quality work, that could potentially lead to publications of international standard. It should not be confused with master level Programs such as MBA.


Q2. Can I complete the doctoral course on a part-time basis?

Q3. Who can apply for the program?

Students/professionals who want to pursue a career in advanced research and academics (including teaching) are the ideal candidates for this Program. The applicant should have high scholastic ability, aptitude for research and excellent analytical skills. He/She should have enough motivation to withstand the rigour of the Program.


Q4. What is expected from the Doctoral Program students?

They are expected to complete course work, pass a comprehensive exam, and then do publication quality research of an international standard.


Q5. Do I need to be an MBA for doing this Program?

Q6. Is there financial support to meet academic expenses?

Yes,the DPM programme is financially supported by the institute. However, for the EDPM programme, there is a programme fee.  For further details visit us at https://www.iimtrichy.ac.in/fpm-support


Q7. How long is the PhD program?

Students are expected to complete the programme within four years. However, the maximum duration by which a student is expected to complete the graduating requirements of the programme is seven years.


Q8. Can I reapply if application is rejected previously?

Yes, there is an option to reapply


Q9. When does the programme start?

The tentative application process starts in November/December and the programme is expected to start in July.


Q10. What are the entrance exams?

Q11. How many students get selected per year?

The selection is area specific and entirely depends on the candidate\'s performance. No limit on candidate count.


Q12. For how many areas can I apply in a year?

You can apply for a maximum of two areas in a year.


Q13. What's the degree/title that I get at the completion of the course?

Students are awarded the degree of ‘Doctor of Philosophy’ (PhD) in the student\'s area of specialization.


Q14. Do the Doctoral Program students need to teach?

No, but they are required to work closely with professors as teaching assistants after completing the Comprehensive Qualifying Examination.


Q15. Can I opt out of PGDM Courses to be undertaken during the first two years of the doctoral programme?

Yes, in case, you hold a PGDM from any IIM or a PGPBM from IIMT, you will be exempt from the PGPM courses offered in year one, provided the student has a CGPA of 2.55/4.33 or equivalent and has obtained the diploma within 5 years from the year of admission to the DPM program.


Q16. Is there an application fee for the program?

Yes, an application fee of Rs.500/- (No fee for SC / ST / DAP candidates) to be remitted through NEFT in favour of IIMT


Q17. What is the programme structure?

Q18. Do I have the scope to do interdisciplinary research?

Yes, No restrictions on interdisciplinary work.  Idea can be discussed with faculty before execution.  Much of the research work done by our students is interdisciplinary in nature.
