Sethu.G holds a Doctorate in Management from IIM, Ahmedabad, M.Tech from IIT, Madras and B.Tech (Honours) from IIT, Kharagpur. He has experience of about 33 years. His experience includes graduate teaching at MBA level, executive education, research, advisory work, and service to the professional community. His field of academic specialization is finance & capital markets. He received the Prof. Sengupto Medal for scholastic achievement at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India (1977).
After serving in the civil service for a brief period, he joined as Associate Professor of Finance at XLRI Jamshedpur in 1991. He served as Professor at the UTI Institute of Capital Markets during 1996-2006 and as Officer on Special Duty at the National Institute of Securities Markets during 2006-2011. During the period 1997-2004, he was the Dean at the UTI Institute of Capital Markets.
He has many years of experience in curriculum design, investor education, organizing research conferences and industry seminars, design and delivery of executive education, research and advisory work besides participation in a number of professional activities such as director on corporate boards and serving as member of various committees.
As a full-time faculty member, he has taught corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, and management control systems to graduate students at XLRI. At the UTI Institute of Capital Markets he taught capital markets to graduate students. As a visiting faculty member, he has taught corporate finance and strategic financial management to the MBA students at IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Indore for many years. In addition, as a visiting professor, he has taught at IIM Kozhikode and IIT Mumbai.
He has been a Ph.D thesis examiner for JNU, IIT Kanpur, University of Pune, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and NMIMS University, Mumbai. He has been a member of Board of Examiners of University of Wales for their MBA programme in India. He has also been a Chief Examiner for the Indian Institute of Bankers, Mumbai.
As Associate Professor of Finance at XLRI, Jamshedpur (1991-1995), he offered executive education programmes in Finance, Accounting & Control. At the UTI Institute of Capital Markets, as Professor of Finance, he designed and delivered executive education programmes for capital market participants and corporate executives in India and abroad.
He has published in the area of capital markets with special focus on the mutual fund industry. He has participated in a number of seminar and conferences and presented several papers.
He has been a member of the many committees including the Committee to Review Ownership and Governance of Market Infrastructure Institutions (Bimal Jalan Committee); Mutual Fund Advisory Committee, SEBI; Capital Markets Committee of FICCI; SEBI Standing Committee on Certification of Capital Market Intermediaries; Ad-Hoc Board of Studies in Banking & Finance, University of Mumbai; and Committee to Study the Recommendations of AMFI.
